Gg 5k Run & Walk 2014
It's that time of year again, Good Grief's annual 5k Run & Walk! As you know, Matthew and I have been involved with Gg in a variety of ways over the years since losing John in 2009. It's crazy to think it's been over 16 years...we still talk about Daddy all the time. Matthew is now a rising Senior at Providence College, has a solid group of friends and is active in a variety of clubs and intramural sports. He reminds me of John more and more the older he gets. Good Grief has been with us all along. We have participated in their peer support groups, volunteered in various functions, and attend events like the 5K and Gala.
Big news this year: I joined the Good Grief Staff! I work part-time as the Enrichment Coordinator, organizing and running events for our participant families to get together outside of their Nights of Support/peer support groups. Some of my favorite events are Movie Nights with pizza, snacks and fun games for the kids at our Centers; while their parents/caregivers attend a Chill & Chat at a local restaurant and have a chance to socialize, grab a bite and drink knowing their kids are safe and having a blast! And our Day of Remembrance, where participants invite family members to our centers to honor their person through meaningful programs, family crafts, and pot luck lunch of their persons favorite dishes. As for this years 5K, I helped plan the activities and will be organizing the Morristown volunteers manning those stations. I also continue to volunteer as a facilitator during a Night of Support. The Orange group is a fun bunch of high energy 1st & 2nd graders. They develop lifelong skills about processing their own grief, while building community and connection with their peers going through the same things they are. It has been the greatest "work" I've ever been part of.
Good Grief builds resilience in children, strengthens families, and empowers communities to grow from loss and adversity. Good Grief is 100% privately funded, and their programming is free of charge to all participants for as long as they need the support. This particular event helps us to honor and remember those who we have lost, while creating community at a time when isolation and loneliness are all around us.
With every donation you make to support my efforts, Good Grief is able to ensure their programming remains free of charge to the families who need it the most. Every dollar makes a difference, so please hit the donate button!
Want to join me in making a difference? Register today and Run or Walk!
Good Grief's 5K Run and Walk is Sunday, June 1 at Drew University in Madison from 8:30-12:30.
Thank you so much for supporting us and putting the Good in Grief,
Cindy Clark
